CONNECT FOR: improved outcomes for Victoria's vulnerable young people

This exciting two-day conference includes the following highlights:
Mr Charles Leadbeater hails from the United Kingdom. He is a leading authority on innovation, strategy and education and has been described as “immensely provocative” by ABC broadcaster, Geraldine Doogue. His address, which will draw on examples from around the world, will explore innovation in education for vulnerable young people.
Professor Mark Rose, Chair of Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Deakin University, will speak on future thinking around Indigenous education and its relevance to the education of other disadvantaged young people.
Ms Gill Callister, Secretary Victorian Department of Human Services, will discuss partnership and integrated service responses, focusing on organisational and service delivery changes that will contribute to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
Mr Bill Scales AO, Chancellor Swinburne University of Technology, and one of the three panellists on the recent Protecting Victoria’s Vulnerable Children Inquiry, will speak about the Inquiry’s findings and its implications for future planning and development.
Professor Rob White, Professor of Criminology University of Tasmania, will examine the challenges of successful partnerships and integrated service responses at the coalface.
Early Intervention plenary session
A panel of leading researchers and workers who have expertise in early intervention strategies will interact with conference delegates to examine the complexities of this issue.
Concurrent workshops and presentations
There will be four streams with over 40 presentations and workshops showcasing best practice and research in:
•future thinking for responses to vulnerable young people
•early intervention strategies
•partnerships and integrated service responses
Parallel youth stream
A discrete youth conference will run alongside the main conference, wherein a selected group of young people will have the opportunity to talk openly about their experiences as service users and what they believe they need for their life outcomes to improve. They will feed back their discussions and insights to delegates in the last plenary session of the conference. The Minister for Education, the Hon Martin Dixon, and the Minister for Youth Affairs, the Hon. Ryan Smith, will introduce the youth feedback session, and Simone Reichstein, Director, Office for Youth, and Richard Bolt, Secretary, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, will respond to the young people.
Enjoy canapés, drinks and entertainment from young people at the conference cocktail party on the first night of the conference, commencing at 5.30pm.
